We’ve unlocked chores this summer and our not-so-secret-secret to managing it all is Greenlight. And we’re not the only ones - they saw almost 270,000 chores added to the app this Summer. 💪

Story Time
This summer we’ve been bribing teaching the kids to do extra chores for money (super easy to manage through Greenlight).
My oldest stacks them up and cashes out. After I pay her, she opens up her app and moves some into savings, investing, and keeps some for spending. Typical first born.
My middle is follows a bare minimum approach. If we say she has to wear 15 pieces of flair, she’s only ever going to wear 15 pieces of flair - no matter what kind of reward I would bestow on her. Save money for a rainy day? She’s not buying it.
My youngest does the easiest of all of the paid chores just to do a little better than his middle sister and be able to rub it in. He’s always pleased to get a payout.
Back to my middle daughter (she’s almost 13). She suddenly realized, in her state of summer boredom, that there were 2 books she wanted to get and she also wants to get her ear pierced.
“Do some chores,” I say.
She resists. Says, “Ew.”
A few days pass and she realizes we aren’t budging - she needs to earn the money. And so she starts with her backwards math.
2 books + ear piercing + tax = $$$$$
“I’d have to clean both bathrooms twice, make 11 flower bouquets, and - cringe - mow the lawn.”
Suddenly, she’s motivated.
What changed?
She had her why.
She had her reason.
It came from within.
And, she had a detailed plan. She knew how much each chore paid out and knew exactly what she had to do, prioritizing the biggest return on investment (time/effort for money).
The external motivator (money) wasn’t enough for her. She had to have a clear vision of how that money could help her.
Before You Dive In, You Need Clarity
Let’s look at a goal you may have… (pro-tip: do this in real time, right now!)
Common ones I hear are:
→ Manage my stress better.
→ Sleep more.
→ Eat healthier to support my body in Perimenopause.
→ Drink less alcohol.
Great start, but let’s turn it into something more specific:
What exactly do you want? What is your “definition of done”? Do you want to sleep more or do you really want to wake up feeling rested and energized throughout the day?
Why do you want it? How will it make things better or different for you? What will change for you?
How will you know when you’ve accomplished, or are moving in the direction of it? What specific metrics will tell you about your progress? How will you track it? How will you know when you’ve “arrived?”
Effective change means being able to realistically:
identify all the tasks, trade-offs, and commitments involved
prioritize what matters
figure out what to do first
As you get clear about what you really want and steps you need to take to get there, focus on choosing:
Simple actions over complex ones.
What works over what’s ideal.
Progress over perfection.
Self-compassion over critique.
